February 24, 2022 4:00pm Louisiana Tech University Parents and GEAR UP students work side by side to complete certification as a Contact Tracer through Coursera with content from Johns Hopkins with Zoom or Face to Face support February 24th at 4pm at Louisiana Tech University. This is an introductory course for students and parents where they will learn the science of SARS-COV-2, how contact tracing is done, how to build rapport with cases, identify contacts, and give support to stop transmission in communities. This is an opportunity to learn key marketable skills quickly. Many positions are available to individuals who have this training. GEAR UP Camps APP - Awesome Physics with Phones (students and teachers) March - May, 2022 For GEAR UP students and GEAR UP teachers. Awesome camp on Coursera for GEAR UP students and teachers to learn about Physics. Learn how to turn your smart phone into a physics lab. You will also learn about motion, properties of sound, and much more. The learning takes place on the Coursera platform but is led by Dr. Pedro Derosa along with other instructors from the physics department and outstanding physics students. This is a tool to share physics and fun. This course will change the way you feel about physics. It makes physics fun. Teachers this is a wonderful tool to use with your students for physical science and physics. Students it is great for you to use as a tool to learn physics and prepare for your class or future. The course explores various leadership topics such as planning, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. Each module includes a technology tool aligned with the content being explored. In addition to exploring the leadership skills there are two tool boxes to aid in preparation for college, careers, and ACT. To register, contact Erika Jones. Ms. Molly Taylor Rainwater will be at Louisiana Tech University, February 19, 2022, and will give you valuable tips and training to prepare you for your test. The 4 areas of the test will be covered. You will also have a tour of the campus facilities. GEAR UP Academic CampsSummer and academic year learning opportunities for students is of paramount importance to the comprehensive programming to ensure that Louisiana high school students are prepared for the post secondary opportunities they choose to pursue. For each academic strand, there is one online summer learning experience and an academic year learning experience. The four content strands of programming include Physics, Scientific Visualization, Cyber and Engineering, & Education and Leadership.
